General:

The smart carrier board is the heart of most RI fixtures and has many advantages over its passive counterpart.
For example the smart carrier board provides four control lines for each of its module locations (eight for the 12RF and 10 for the 20RF styles). The passive carrier board does not. Also the smart carrier board provides for clock, strobe, read, and write on two of its ten module positions (M1 and M5). This provides for the control of fixture modules and functions that require more than simple static digital control.

Switch Field Command Types:

1. Basic Static Digital - Examples include SPDT and SP4T switches, Enable/Disable funtions on modules,
divider ratio selections, and programmable attenuator settings.
      When writing to a Smart Carrier module control line the format is of S#10X1
      S = S, # = Module number being written to (M1-MA), X = 1, X, or 0.
      Bit position = S# DS1 DS2 DS3 DS4

      Ex. The string S6XX01 would drive DS3 low ( 0.0V ) and DS4 high (3.8V) on the fixture module placed at the physical location of M6 on the smart carrier.
2. There are eight usable Cbit drivers found on the 40 pin headers of the smart carrier board.

When writing to a standard Cbit ( found on the fixture carrier board ) the format is of CXY
C = C, X = control bit used, Y = 1 or 0.

1 = Open
0 = Closed

      Ex. C20 Sets the standard Cbit#2 low. To combine this with a Smart Carrier control string, add it to the front of the overall string. The string C20S6XX01 sets standard Cbit#2 low, sets DS3 low, and sets DS4 high on the fixture module found at M6.
3. "A" Type Commands - Examples include 1X32, 1X16, 8X24 muxes. These modules typically need a serial string for control due to the number of possible conditions.

When writing to a module requiring an "A" type command the format is A#SW=N+alpha
A=A for action, # = Module number being written to (M1-MA), N+alpha = a number plus letter
(Ex. 16a) which refers to a specific configuration of the module.

4. "M" Type Commands: Please see specific module specifications (Cbit Expander module).

Fixture requirements:
1. Smart Carrier (RIK0014A).
2. Press in connector strips ( 16 pin ) installed at desired module locations ( M1 - M16 on 2AC1), (M1-M8 on 4AV1), (M1-MA on 65A1).
3. Bench Top DC Voltage Requirements: +5V / +12V
4. When writing to a Smart Carrier Cbit Module the format is of M#AXXXXXXX.
M = M, # = Module number being written to, A = A, X = 1, X, or 0.

Ex.: M4AXXXXXX1X Writes to Smart Module #4 and sets bit#2 low.

1. When writing to a Smart Carrier Opto Cbit the format is of:
S#1XX1
S = S, # = Module number being written to, X = 1, X, or 0.
0 = closed (0V) and 1 = open (3.8V)
