Day 1
Goals: Understand the overall system, its hardware and software structure; Understand general service techniques; Become proficient at working with service test plans.
Powering down and powering up the tester and the test head
Types of service test plans: calibrate, validate, verify, diagnose
Calibration test plan review
Verify test plan review
Inspecting cal data
Test System block diagram
Finding files and directories
Test plans
Breakpoint & using Control panels
Finding limits and interpreting their values
Review Special Calibration buttons
Do NOT EVER change a calibrate/diagnose/verify test plan
Always make a copy named junk
Day 2
Goals: Understand troubleshooting basics. Become proficient with diagnosing & troubleshooting RF issues
Troubleshooting basics on Roos equipment
Determine if the problem is a source or receive path
Is the problem frequency or power related
Methods to narrow down and find the problem
How to handle coax cables
Review each diagnostic test plan
Understand how the diagnostic test plans relate to the Test System block diagram
Using a Breakpoint in a diagnostic test plan to narrow in on the problems
Day 3
Goals: Become proficient at troubleshooting sources and non-RF issues
Trouble shooting & repairing sources
Startup and self tests for sources
Averaging and Phase lock problems
DC and analog circuits: troubleshooting to the module level
Day 4
Goals: Become comfortable with hands-on service of test systems
Hands on review of
Test plans & Breakpoint
Inspecting calibration data
Replacing step attenuators and relays
Hands-on repair of test systems
Day 5
Hands-on repair of test systems (continued)
