Guru Enterprise Server provides a pair of redundant 1U rack mounted servers for use with 10 or more Cassini ATE systems. A secondary Guru Enterprise Server (pair) can be configured for Datalog off-loading for improved performance and reliability. Guru provides disaster recovery for Cassini ATE System Controllers and seamless development environment for Cassini Virtual Workstations. See Guru Description for the complete feature list.

This table helps collect information needed to configure Guru Enterprise Server. Because the cluster can scale up from 2 physical systems, we collect information for the first two and will assume the last digit is incremented unless another pattern is requested. Default values are listed in parentheses. IP v4 addresses should be in dot notation, ##.##.##.##. (## = 0-254), Networks can be specified with /XX or ##.##.##.## notation.

1 Identification
Host Name - Service Tag (Warranty Identification) - Guru ID
2 Server Power
Requires 120V service. (Servers support 220, but monitor, KVM switch and power distribution poles only support 120V)
Server Plug Type is C14.
IEC 60320 C14.svg IEC60320 C13.jpg IEC60320 C14.jpg

Rack Plug Type is "Type B" or NMEA 5-15 http://www.iec.ch/worldplugs/typeB.htm

Please provide a cord adapter compatible with your facility. Each server has dual redundant 350W hot plug power supplies. For maximum availability, each server should be plugged into 2 separate circuits, both with Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). QTY 2 adapters required (for each "side" of redundant power).
3 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) (optional)
UPS is NOT required for Guru Enterprise Server performance or reliability. It is RECOMMENDED if facility's power supply is not stable or HIGH AVAILABILITY is needed.
Typical load is 42 Watts, 420 Watts MAX. Capacity should be > 180 Watts.
Must output 120V AC power. Input can be 120V or 220V depending on brand and model. APC recommended capacity: 2kVA  SYH2K6RMT-P1 + SYBT2 +SYPM2KU
4 Host Names (please provide 4 or use suggested), Please add these hosts to the internal DNS server records.
(guru-srv1, guru-srv2, guru-srv3, guru-srv4)
5 IP Configuration (DHCP for Automatic or Static IP (preferred))
DHCP or STATIC (provide 8 addresses (one each for primary and remote administration interface)
Default Route, Subnet
DNS Server(s)
Factory configured DHCP
6 Hardware Remote Admin Interface, (HTTP, IPMI) ********OPTIONAL***********
Uses "idrac-<SERVICE TAG>" as hostname.
IP Configuration
(see above, DHCP or Static IP, Netmask, Default Route, DNS)
Email Hardware Failure Notification
(requires above, plus email address (to and from), SMTP server & log-on credentials)
Factory configured DHCP (on LAN port). No remote monitoring configured.
7 UPDATE/BACKUP- Shared Network Drive(s) -- useful for importing .gzp, DATALOG
for fstab: NFS or SAMBA (SMB), specify all needed parameters (host, mount path options, etc.)
nfs-server:/ /mnt nfs auto 0 0 (strongly SUGGEST SETTING NFS options correctly)
8 DATALOG - Shared Network Drive(s) -- for STDF data files only. Only 1 agent should be active at a time.
for fstab: NFS or SAMBA (SMB), specify all needed parameters (host, mount path options, etc.)
see above for examples
9 NTP Server (local or internet) - ACCURATE TIME IS VERY IMPORTANT GURU SERVER OPERATION, connection to local NTP Server strongly recommended. Internet based NTP protocol requires outbound UDP port 123.
(ntp.company.com)
10 Server Locality & Time Zone
Set to Americas\Los Angeles PDT (-7/-8 GMT). See Configure Xubuntu... for changing to local timezone.
11 Ubuntu Software Updates
(United States mirror) - Specify a country name.
Notice: Regular updates are not necessary (and are discouraged). Security updates can be applied or full system updates when advised by Roos Support.
Set to check daily from servers in United States, requires port 90/443 access to the internet. See Configure Xubuntu... for changing to local update server.

Required Hardware at Facility:
Power/UPS: 120V AC power, 2 separate circuits for redundant power supplies. Uninterruptible power supply is not monitored by servers, Guru is designed to survive a sudden power failure or system shutdowns.
Network: 100 Mb or Gigabit (100/1000) network switches. CAT 5e or better for 1000 MB (Gigabit) Network performance. CAT 5 for 100 MB network performance.
Note about 220 V Power: KVM, Monitor, Router all using US Standard 120V AC power adapters. 220 is supported ONLY if new power supplies are purchased. (Servers have native 120/220 support)

Planning
  • Network Topology
    • Server Based Local Subnet (Automatic load balance and failover with zeroconfig)
    • Client Based Address Book (manually configured priorities used to load balance)
    • Server Based Network Wide (Zeroconfig Proxy required, not supported by RI)
  • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for high availability. Separate UPS for each server PSU.
  • Rack space requirements (1U per server, +2-3U for table, router, kvm, etc.. 2U-8U total)
  • KVM with Keyboard, Video, Mouse (VGA and USB)
  • Guru Net Switch (Clones running on RI managed subnet)
  • LAN Cable (Network path to Test Floor with Cassini System Controllers and/or Virtual Workstations)

Configuration
  • Pair of cloned Guru Servers running Xubuntu 14.4 LTS, linked between themselves with RI managed subnet and linked to testers and virtual workstations using client based Address book (host or IP) or zeroconfig based auto-discovery (server configuration required).
  • Username: "guru" (as per ubuntu standards, use "sudo" to gain root access, root user is not available)
    Default Password: "
Cassini16" (captial "C") - can be changed with the "passwd" command on each system (and Remote Admin interface).
  • Additional 'Clones' can be added (1U each) to handle additional load (approx. 10 Cassini systems per 1U Guru server). Capacity greatly varies based on part volume, network infrastructure, and other factors.
  • Test Data transfer via Guru Agent to locally mounted NFS or SMB drive OR remote FTP server (Agent runs from one system, data collected via backup and clone process). When a failure occurs, an Administrator must manually change the server which the agent runs (Change owner to Guru ID of server).

Installation Procedure
  • Install each server according to MFG instructions (rails provided)
  • Attach power to separate power supplies
  • Attach LAN network to subnet with Cassini ATE systems
  • Configure LAN IPs
  • Verify cloning activity
  • Connect Cassini ATE (Server based or Guru Address book based)

Administration
  • Remote Administration with VNC. Use any VNC client to connect to "vnc://hostname:5900" with password "Cassini16"
  • IPMI access to console (iDRAC services), monitoring and alerts. "idrac-<ServiceTag>" is default hostname with DHCP.

Disaster Recovery (Bare Metal Restore and Offsite Backup)
  • Periodic backup of Guru Enterprise Server program directory located at /home/guru/ (includes all guru data), i.e. use "rsync" to clone directory to offsite backup. Note: all clones use identical /riapps, all configuration is stored in guru.
  • One server can be configured with additional "Clone" guru server located offsite (low bandwidth, high latency configuration) for Guru data.
  • Maintain USB stick of Xubuntu 14.4 LTS (http://xubuntu.org/getxubuntu/)

Hardware Failure
