The Cassini software can be managed by Short Cuts that are released by RI to support hardware (drivers and firmware) and software features. Patches can be updated and so each patch has a number and a sub-version name and descriptions along with a release date. Comparing functionality between releases is helpful for evaluating new features and understanding how the impacts of they changes may impact measurements, test time or other productions sensitive features. Occasionally new features are released that are dependant on the Guru Server, other Guru Apps or operating system requirements. Use the procedure below to compare the Short Cut used to launch the currently running Cassini and any other Short Cut stored in Guru.

There are two district types of Short Cut, the standard and fast loading varieties. By convention, fast loading Short Cuts often have a "B" at the end of the version name. These are fully patched and compiled versions of Cassini operating as a district Guru Application from the standard version which requires the patches to be compiled while the Short Cut is loading. Fast loading Short Cuts should not be selected when prompted to "Select Shortcut to Compare" because they do not contain a list of patches that are to be applied (since they are already included). However, they can be launched and a standard Short Cut can be selected from the list in order to understand the differences.

To Compare Running Shortcut with Another Shortcut:
1. Launch a Fast Loading ("B") or Standard Short Cut from the Short Cuts button.
2. After the Cassini application is done loading, choose Options > Compare ShortCut...to open the Select Shortcut to Compare prompt.
3. Choose a standard Short Cut from the list.
IMPORTANT: Fast loading short cuts are NOT supported.

4. Please wait while the Comparing Shortcut action is completed. Follow the tips on interpreting the results below.

Interpreting the Results
The result displays in a window titled with the chosen External Short Cut name (often "previous" version) and the current Internal Short Cut name. Only differences are included, any same software patch is not listed. The results are in sections. The first sections list the Patches sub-version number and release dates. The "Patches Descriptions" section lists the description of each patch.
  • GF10RC2A is the RiAppPN or unique identifier for the Guru app. This corresponds to Cassini v18, which is the base application for all Cassini Short Cuts and was first released in 2018.
  • Each section compares the "external" shortcut, referring to the shortcut selected from the list, that is compared with the currently running or "internal" shortcut. External is the Short Cut chosen to compare with, internal is the currently running Short Cut.
  • New patches appear under the "Patches not in external shortcut" section.
  • A list of the the Patch number and sub-version along with a one line Name and revision date the patch was released.
  • Each patch is a 3 character number followed by a hyphen "-" and a Sub Version number.
  • Compare the changes in the description to understand what was changed since between the previous "external" version and the current "internal" version of the patch.

2 patches always appear in the "Not in External" list because they are mandatory and can be safely ignored.

NEW PATCHES

These are new features that may want to notify users of changes. Patches not in external shortcut Search Documentation online for the description to see if it is documented.

UPDATES

Updates are improvements to existing features. Patches with revisions, (external then internal) Compare changes in the extended description to understand what changed. Not all changes are documented and would represent a fix or minor change.

Interpreting the results

For example:

GF10RC2A.176-56 Ri8567B Driver (06/18/23 04:49:58 pm)
GF10RC2A.176-58 Ri8567B Driver (01/31/25 04:17:01 pm)

This shows that there are 2 changes since the latch Short Cut for the Ri8567B Driver.
