The steps below reference standard procedures for adding an additional TIM and (optionally) updating a Cal List. These steps assume the current Cassini configuration has quantity 3 RI7715 20 GHz Source TIMs (Source1, Source2, RecLO) and a RI8587 Receiver TIM.

Upgrade Considerations:
The 20 GHz Testset and other stand-alone TIMs are not affected by this upgrade and are 100% physically compatible with current Cassini configurations. However, some Testplan modifications may be required due to the new performance characteristics of the new Source and Receiver TIMs. After the update, the AUX Rack and AUX Rack TIMs can be completely removed. A workspace (cart or desk) or RI8599A Adjustable Arms may be needed to hold the Development Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse. After the upgrade, there will be QTY 3 7725 20 GHz Source TIMs available for redeployment as either spares or Source3 instruments in other configurations. The 50 GHz TestSet requires the 25 GHz Source and 25 GHz Receiver/LO to source and measure beyond 40 GHz, otherwise it is compatible with the 20 GHz Source and Receiver TIMs with reduced frequency and power range. A RI7725 20 GHz Source TIM may be optionally deployed as a Source3 instrument and is implemented in the CalList. If a Source3 instrument is required, RI recommends using an additional RI8586 25 GHz Source TIM for use as Source3 as illustrated in the diagram.

Requirement Equipment:
  • RI8607 50 GHz TestSet (T-4 Testhead50)
  • Qty 2 RI8586 25 GHz Sources (T-15 Source1, T-16 Source2)
  • (Optional) Qty 1 RI8586 25 GHz Sources (T-1 Source3)
  • RI8596 Receiver with LO (T-3 Receiver)
  • Existing Cassini Configuration with QTY 2 RI7725 20 GHz Sources (T-15 Source1 + RecLo, T-16 Source2), RI8587 Receiver
  • Diag/Cal Interface plate for this Configuration
  • (Optional) Desktop workspace for Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse.

To Install 50 GHz TestSet, 25 GHz Sources and Receiver:
  1. Log On to Guru with a user with Developer role.
  2. Choose Short Cuts and select the latest "Dev ##.##" version available.
  3. Reference the "before" and "after" Diag/Cal Interface Plate and RF System Block diagrams provided by RI Support for the T-Locations required for the Configuration. (See Figure 1 and Figure 2)
  4. Remove the TIMs in T-3, T-15, T-16. (Optionally T-1)
Note: Removing T15 Src1 & RecLO is OK because the RecLO instrument is now internal to the Receiver TIM.
  5. Choose System > Check from the Cassini application to remove the TIMs from the Configuration.
  6. For the RI8607 50 GHz TestSet TIM, insert into T-4 and follow the procedure to Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System.
Note: Step 5 involves updating the Cal list. This can be done now or after adding all TIMs, it only has to be changed once.
  7. For the 1st RI58586 25 GHz Source TIM, insert into T-15 and follow the procedure for Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System to be added as Source1 instrument. (Do Not add both at the same time. This allows the tester to assign the instrument names in a specific order.)
  8. For the 2nd RI58586 25 GHz Source TIM, insert into T-16 and follow the procedure for Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System to be added as Source2 instrument.
  9. (Optional) For the 3rd RI58586 25 GHz Source TIM, insert into T-1 and follow the procedure for Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System to be added as Source3 instrument.
  10. For the RI8596 Receiver with LO TIM, insert into T-3 and follow the procedure for Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System to be added as Receiver instrument.
IMPORTANT: Don't forget to Save the Tester! (From the Configuration window, choose Tester > Save).
  11. (Optional) Update the Default Cal/Diag List. If the installation is intended to be permanent, the tester's default calibration list may have to be modified to include service plans for the new TIM for future Calibrations. See Product DocsChanging the Default Cal/Diag List Associated With a Cassini Tester. The Cal/Diag list should be available in Guru or included in a .GZP from Roos Instruments as ObjClass "RiCalList".
  12. After running Diags, perform a complete Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'Calibration - Written Procedure for Complete Cassini System Cal'RF System Calibration, any stand-alone TIM calibrations can be safely skipped. See a current list list of stand-alone TIMs on the roos.com/maintenance page.
  13. Send an email to [email protected] that includes the Tester's serial number (See Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'What is my Guru ID?'What is my Guru ID?) where these steps are performed so we may update our records.

To Install RI7725 as Source3:
  1. Optionally, the RI7725 20 GHz Source2 from T-16 can be used in T-1 to become Source3.
Note: Testhead50's Source3 calibration process must be matched to the model of the Source3 Instrument. Please contact [email protected] if this configuration is changed.
  2. Insert into T-1 and follow the procedure for Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System'Adding Another Test Instrument Module (TIM) into a Cassini System to be added as Source3 instrument.
Note: Because of the limited frequency range with the 50 GHz TestSet, RI recommends purchasing an additional RI8586 25 GHz Source TIM for use as Source3 as illustrated in the diagram. (See Figure 2)
  4. Send an email to [email protected] that includes the Tester's serial number (See Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'What is my Guru ID?'What is my Guru ID?) where these steps are performed so we may update our records.
