A user might accidentally close vital network service windows, like "telnet" (see Figure 1). To avoid this, the task can be hidden from the task bar to prevent the user from accidentally closing. The window can be minimized and will only be listed from the Window List (CTRL+ESC or left + right mouse button click on desktop) and will not appear with ALT+TAB task switcher or from the task bar below. These steps assume ArcaOS, but a similar steps are available with eCS and OS/2.

To Filter a Window & Archive Desktop:
  1. Right click on the task you want filtered and choose Filter "TELNETD.EXE" from the right mouse button menu. (Figure 2)
  2. After changing any desktop settings, always follow the setps top Archive Desktop, so they can be easily recovered from the ALT+F2 startup recover prompt. (See Product DocsRecovering RI System Controller with ALT+F2)

To Remove a Window Filter:
  1. Right click on any running process across the task bar and choose Properties from the right click menu. (See Figure 3).
  2. Select the title of the target window in the Current filters section and choose Remove. "Telnetd.exe" in this example. (See Figure 4)
  3. Choose Ok to close the Window List Filters prompt. The task is now hidden from the task bar.
  4. After changing any desktop settings, always follow the setps top Archive Desktop, so they can be easily recovered from the ALT+F2 startup recover prompt. (See Product DocsRecovering RI System Controller with ALT+F2)

To Archive Desktop:
  1. Right click anywhere on the desktop and choose Restart Desktop... from the menu. (Figure 5)
  2. Check Arcvhive Desktop once after restart and choose OK. Continue closing applications if prompted and allow the desktop to restart. (Figure 6)
  3. Confirm that the target window (telnetd.exe) is not visible in the task bar.
