The Cassini 16 Test Head rotates to accommodate multiple docking scenarios including the most common, docking "Up" to a handler, "Right" or "Left" for turret or gravity fed handlers, or "Down" to dock to a prober. The Test Head also intentionally swivels in a 3-axis horizontal motion so that the Fixture docking process does not strain the Fixture and Test Head. The locking mechanism provides precise and fixed locking ability to secure the Test Head in any arbitrary rotation and tilt angles. The Test Head also allows for tuned adjustment to the swivel joint assembly used to center head based on the target weight of the installed TIMs, Fixture and any custom docking hardware. Watch "Using Cassini Head Rotation Lock (Preview)" Instructional Video below to see the Test Head rotation lock features in action.

New Features
    1. Lock at arbitrary angles anywhere along the 280 degrees of rotation, including Up (0°), Left (-90°),Right (90°), and Down (180°).
    2. Rotation stops automatically at 90 degree safety zones to prevent an unbalanced Test Head from swinging.
    3. New Left (-90°) rotational position.
    4. Adjustable arm tilt that enables greater compensation for atypical loading.
Rotation and Safety Zones
The Test Head can rotate 280 degrees total from "Down" (180°), "Right" (90 Degrees), "Up" (0 degrees), and "Left" (-90 degrees) rotational angles. It is not possible to directly transition from "Down" to "Right" as shown as a red area in Figure 5. There are four safety zones where the head will stop rotating when the lever is in the "Unlocked" position at 5 degrees off center (shown as orange areas in Figure 5). Each zone corresponds to the four angles typically used when docking: 0 degrees Up, +90 degrees Right, -90 degrees Left, and 180 degrees Down. The lever must be moved into Release location while transitioning out of a safety zone by holding the handle in the Release position. Once the Test Head is rotated beyond the edge of the safety zone, the handle can be moved to the unlocked position and the Test Head rotated until the desired angle is achieved.

CAUTION: Some Test Head rotational positions move the center of gravity so that rotating the Test Head requires force. For your safety, RI recommends having an assistant available to help until comfortable using the rotation lock.

IMPORTANT: Test Head should be rotated with the TIMs installed. If attempting to rotate a Test Head with Fixture and/or docking hardware attached, install the appropriate counterweight; RIK0242A Test Head Single Counterweight (5 Kg or 14 pounds) or RIK0244A Test Head Double Counterweights (11 Kg or 25 pounds).

Field Upgrade Procedure
This is intended to be performed by a authorized Roos Instruments service technician. There are steps that could permanently damage components not included in the upgrade kit.

IMPORTANT: When installing hardware with screws, always start a single screw and leave it loose, do not tighten. Then start a second screw on the "opposite" corner, leaving loose. Then proceed to install the rest of the screws, leaving all loose. After confirming final position, hand tighten all screws unless a specific torque expressed in foot pounds/newton meters is provided. These instructions will have separate steps from "installing" screws, then immediately "tighten" screws.
  1. Remove all TIMs and PODs (H-Ports).
  2. Prepare a cart or table to be able to rest the testhead on while replacing the swivel joint and rotational lock assembly. Add a thin layer of foam or padding to prevent the top of the testhead from being damaged from resting on the cart/table.
  3. Rotate the Testhead so the Fixture side (top) is facing to the right as pictured in Figure 1. Lock the Testhead rotation.
  4. Power down the Test Head by switching the paired breakers labeled Head on the side to Off.
Note: Only 48V is provided, so it is safe by OSHA standards to leave the power on. This additional step is just a precaution.
  5. Unscrew and open the Testhead access panel. Diagram A shows the 16 screw locations needed to remove the access panels for either the Testhead, 3 on the rear, 12 on the top, and 3 on the front.
  6. Loosen but do not remove the shaft lock screw 3/32 allen wrench. This disables the testhead lock because the shaft is freely floating.
  7. Loosen but do not remove then remove both bolts. 11/32 wrench.
  8. Pull on the front edge of the Head to take the wight off of the bolt to allow removal of the two shoulder screws.
CAUTION: the head should NOT be pulled off the shaft. It is no longer secured and can be mistakenly pulled off.
  9. Rotate the testhead so the Top is facing downward and lower the head until it lightly rests on the cart/table prepared in step 2.
  10. Loosen and remove both hose clamps and set aside for later reinstallation. 7mm Socket. When reinstalling, do not use a power drill to tighten, hand tighten.
  11. Pull a flexible cover off the arm towards the rear of the tester.
  12. Carefully pull the test Head away from the shaft so it rests on the cart. Do not stretch the power and air cables.
  13. Remove dust shield outer cover by removing 4 screws. Discard the dust shield outer cover.
  14. 3/32 Allen wrench to remove the two set screws on the rotation lock.
  15. Remove 6 screws for the old rotation lock assembly. Be sure to hold the assembly securely before removing the last screw to prevent it from falling on to the RIFL Testhead boards. Careful remove the assembly Retain the removed rotational lock assembly for return to the factory.
  16. Use a flat head screwdriver to remove the cable retaining clip and set aside. (leave to keep cables secure during retrofit)
  17. Use Thin 14mm wrench and Vice grip to loosen the the Lock.
  18. Use your hand to rotate the inside of the lock counter clockwise to remove the assembly. The handle comes off, then the nut and washer. Keep with the removed parts, they will not be reused.
  19. Take 5 screws out to remove the block.
  20. Pull the testhead away so that the flexible cover and clear retaining ring is clear of the head.
  21. Remove the 14 screws from around the upper cover of the bearing assembly, lifting straight up. Set aside and it will be reinstalled.
  22. Remove the 3 screws on the alignment indicating plate. Carefully Set aside for reinstallation.
  23. Cut the black cable ties (5 small, 1 large). Leave the white cable tie that is used for alignment. Caution: do not cut the cables.
  24. Remove 8 screws with 4mm Allen wrench. Hold the shaft when removing the last screw. Retain screws for later use.
  25. Remove the arm and arm mounting plate. Discard, it will not be reused.
  26. Attach new arm by starting an upper and lower screw on the mounting plate. Install 8 screws individually loose. Confirm loctite thread locker is still applied.
  27. Tighten to 7-8 ft/lbs per inch. (newton meters). (Note: No screws in two holes as indicated)
  28. Pull bar out to max position forward and to the left. Thin black cable ties, install three black cable ties. Trim excess from ties.
