The network settings are handled by the embedded operating system (eCS), System Settings application. The system controller is pre-configured to use DHCP to automatically assign appropriate network settings. However, if the system controller needs to use a static IP address, the following instructions will be helpful. The network must be properly configured for Guru to operate. If your network has a dedicated Guru Server, it will be automatically detected via "RI-SLP Guru Auto discovery" or the Guru Address Book can be used to configure the connection to that server. If not, you can access the RI's main Guru Server via the internet to simplify software updates and support requests. The network administrator should review the Guru Network Preparation Guidelines - connecting to guru.roos.com document.
See also EPC Exchange Checklist for additional information.
NOTE : Please contact RI Support ([email protected]) for assistant with setting up the TCP/IP networking. First make sure you have access to the following information for your network environment; IP address, TCP/IP Netmask, Default Route, and DNS Server or static host names.
To set TCP/IP Settings:
- Choose System Setup > Network > TCP/IP > TCP/IP Configuration (See Figure 1)
- Change configuration on Network, Routing and Host Names tabs. (See Figures 2-5)
The system comes configured to use DHCP with "Automatically, Using DHCP" selected.
(TIP! Mac address is displayed with the netstat -n | grep phy | head -n1 command)
For static IP, choose "Manually, Using" and enter IP address and Subnet mask. Choose Routing tab and choose Add, change Route Type to default, and enter the Router Address. Choose Host Names then Add to add the name server address. All three are required for typical network functionality.
TIP! To see the current IP address, open a command window and type "ifconfig lan0". If using DHCP, use the System Setup > Network > TCP/IP > DHCP Monitor application to see currently assigned address and Release/Renew.

VirtualBox Set Host Network Adapter to attach to "NAT Network" or "NAT" Mode
Configure the Virtual Machine host to use a network adapter in "NAT" (preferred) or "NAT Network" mode. This allows the most flexibility when using the Virtual Workstation by sharing the VPN, IP address, default route, and DNS configurations with the host OS. "Bridged" mode is required for printing because NetBios over TCP/IP does not normally traverse NAT (udp/tcp ports 137,138,139).
WARNING: Sleep mode (Yellow Guru button) Sometimes the Virtual Machine will not be able to recover from sleep mode if the network location has changed. This usually requires a complete reboot of the host OS or deactivate/activate cycle on the host's network adapter before the virtual machine regains access to the network. Avoid this issue by always Saving the VM after use or prevent the host OS from entering sleep mode. |
